This includes providing for the care and responding to the needs of the prisoner population, as well as directing the activities of the Housing Staff, Custody Staff and/or Programs staff by setting goals, giving direction and providing feedback.
The interdepartmental responsibilities of Programs, Housing and Custody create a need for supervisory and managerial hands-on attention to operations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities Selects and assigns staff, ensuring equal employment opportunity in hiring and promotion.
Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees.
Evaluates and verifies employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques.
Identifies staff development and training needs and ensures that training is obtained.
Ensures proper labor relations and conditions of employment are maintained.
Maintains records, prepares reports, and composes correspondence relative to the work.
Establishes and maintains custody, security, and control measures at the jail.
Supervises and controls the inside movement of prisoners, including initial assignment to prison units and transfers within the jail.
Implements policies and develops procedures in area of responsibility (housing, treatment, custody, or security).
Supervise staff in the classification and orientation of new prisoners.
Regularly coordinates operational self-audits and inspections to ensure continued policy and procedure compliance.
Coordinates, complies, and reviews incident and audit reports.
Investigates and recommends corrective action to management to remedy operational deficiencies.
Reviews written communications from prisoners and interviews them regarding special or personal problems.
Shall exercise supervisory responsibility over correctional staff and inmates to correct compliance issues expeditiously.
Develops and implements procedures for custody and security enhancements based on jail policies.
Serves as a facility designee to corporate office, local agencies, and the public.
Reviews and facilitates staff training, as directed by management.
Assists other Administrators in ensuring facility tasks are completed.
Performs related work as assigned by management, to include, but not limited to:
Staff training, Correctional Officer relief, inmate supervision, commissary delivery, inmate recreation supervision, and inmate escorts.
Responds on a 24-hour, 7-day basis to significant unusual occurrences.
Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
Experience in a responsible administrative secretarial position or related field.
Appropriate accreditation and/or certification in related field may supplement work experience requirement.
Operational experience in a correctional/detention environment required.
Proficient with general PC applications, and software products (Microsoft Office Suite).
Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and knowledge in the performance of complex, confidential, and sometimes difficult duties.
Must be able to use computer and the software applications typically used by the facility.
